Casa Mediterráneo is set to host a new exhibition by photographer and biologist Ángel Fitor under its vast blue roof. Titled 'Mare Lucidum II', the diplomatic institution will celebrate Mediterranean Day on November 28 at 7 PM.
Fitor's exhibition is a continuation of his initial project also showcased at Casa Mediterráneo, where he "turns his gaze towards the beauty that this mythical sea holds" and highlights "its importance for life on earth". The journey also raises awareness by highlighting the issues that "afflict it".
'Mare Lucidum II' features 53 photographs spread across 20 panels, ranging from the brightness of Posidonia meadows or microscopic life in a drop of water to the darkness of plastics or overfishing. Collectively, the images offer a portrait of "the complex reality" of the Mare Nostrum, the result of more than three decades of the author's intimate communion with the sea.
"This time we want to delve deeper into the narrative aspect of the Mediterranean's marine reality. We have moved from displaying individual photographs, which were impactful, attractive, and with important stories on their own, to telling stories through multiple images, allowing the viewer to better understand what is being conveyed: the beauty and drama of the Mediterranean," explains Fitor.
Meanwhile, the general director of Casa Mediterráneo, Andrés Perelló, states that "with this new exhibition, which continues the successful show Mare Lucidum, prose and verse of the unfathomable Mediterranean, inaugurated at our headquarters in 2022, reinforces its commitment to promoting cultural dialogue, cooperation, and the protection of our natural environment".
"Through this exhibition, we aim to inspire all visitors to reflect on the role of the Mediterranean as a source of life, history, and connection between peoples. We invite everyone to immerse themselves in this unique visual experience and rediscover the Mediterranean through the deep and passionate gaze of Ángel Fitor," adds Perelló.
