Calpe remains in shock following two tragic incidents resulting in the deaths of a 20-day-old baby and a four-year-old girl. The baby's mother is still fighting for her life in hospital. These incidents, the causes of which are still under investigation, have left the Marina Alta community deeply shaken due to the involvement of minors. Consequently, the Town Hall has declared three days of official mourning.

The local government has just approved the decree, which includes the suspension of all municipal activities during the mourning period. Flags will fly at half-mast and will bear a black ribbon as a sign of mourning for the two girls.

The first of these tragic days occurred this Sunday, 14th September. A parked car in the vicinity of a residential area rolled uncontrollably down a slope, hitting a mother walking with her baby, a 20-day-old girl, in a pram, as confirmed by TodoAlicante.

The impact was devastating. The baby died, and the 37-year-old mother sustained serious injuries, remaining hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Dénia Hospital.

The horrific incident was witnessed by the child's father and her other four-year-old sibling, who were just metres away when the accident occurred. The scene, indescribably harrowing, has left the family utterly devastated.

The Local Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the tragic accident. It appears that the car's handbrake failed, causing the vehicle to roll downhill uncontrollably.

Fall from a Balcony

Meanwhile, a four-year-old girl has died after being hospitalised for nearly a week following a fall from a fifth-floor balcony in Calpe, as confirmed by TodoAlicante.

The accident occurred around five in the morning on 7th September, when the young girl fell from the balcony of a building on Avenida de la Diputación, landing on a parked car below.

Emergency services were immediately alerted, and an ambulance arrived at the scene, transporting the severely injured girl to the Doctor Balmis General University Hospital in Alicante.

The girl remained under medical care, but unfortunately, nothing could be done to save her life.

The Judicial Police Team of the Calpe Civil Guard is investigating the events, the proceedings of which will be forwarded to the Court of Instruction No. 2 in Dénia, which is handling the case.
