The next Monday, September 30, the trial begins at the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 3 of Alcoy

the civil trial against the company that manages the DomusVi residence, as well as its insurance company, following the lawsuit filed by relatives of the elderly who died from Covid in 2020, claiming more than 2 million euros in civil liability for the death of 15 residents and injuries suffered by three others during the pandemic.

It should be remembered that although a total of 74 elderly people died, not all relatives decided to take legal action. Only about fifty decided to proceed with the judicial process representing 18 victims.

And the journey to this September 30 has not been easy. The Association of Relatives Affected by DomusVi Residences Alcoi-Cocentaina has faced numerous obstacles, such as not having all the information from the company or Conselleria to build their defense and even postponing the trial last February, four years after the events.

The trial will take place over the next two weeks, with twenty witnesses from both sides and 13 experts testifying. The plaintiffs want to know what really happened and seek accountability for the decisions made during those days that led to the deaths of 74 people.

The plaintiffs decided to pursue civil rather than criminal proceedings, as lawyers considered proving intent in the deaths would be challenging.
