El parque inundable La Marjal de Alicante celebrates its first decade. This Friday, representatives from Aguas de Alicante and the City Council, along with the technical teams who conceived and have worked on the infrastructure since its inception, gathered at the large pond to pay tribute.
This large basin, with the capacity of 18 Olympic swimming pools, is a pioneering work in the city of Alicante and throughout Spain, serving to prevent floods at San Juan Beach while also acting as a green lung for the area, a leisure and sustainability space for citizens, and a habitat for numerous plant and animal species.
For this reason, Aguas de Alicante has organized a plan of activities to commemorate this tenth anniversary of the La Marjal flood park with all Alicante residents and visitors. The celebration began this Friday with the unveiling of a program that will extend throughout 2025 with nature-themed events.

The first activity will take place on March 24 with the scientific-technical panel 'Nature-based Solutions' at the Provincial College of Architects of Alicante. This will be followed by an event recognizing individuals and institutions that have been key to the implementation of this pioneering project, which will occur next June. This event will feature an exhibition on La Marjal and other wetlands around the world.
As a finale, Aguas de Alicante has organized a fun and open day for all citizens with various leisure proposals to showcase La Marjal in depth and enjoy the environment in its entirety.
Additionally, throughout the year, guided tours will continue, with prior reservation on the Aguas de Alicante website; and bird ringing days, which will be announced through the mixed company's social networks and the screens of La Marjal park.
