Vandals have once again targeted the cross of Santa Faz, marking the first stop of the pilgrimage to the hamlet. The monument was discovered toppled and significantly damaged in its central part.
This is the second time this sculpture has been targeted. Two years ago, during the 2023 Carnival, vandals attacked this cross of Santa Faz, breaking it in two during the night of the Sábado Ramblero.
This time, they have completely knocked it over, causing a large crack in its vertical pole at the base.
The repair of this monument between February and December 2023 cost the municipal treasury 1,700 euros, as the cross of Santa Faz in Alicante had to be completely replaced.
Additionally, the restoration period led to an atypical Santa Faz pilgrimage, as the procession to the hamlet began without this station of Penitence.
This cross, destroyed by vandals, is a replica of the original, as it was impossible to restore the old sculpture, according to the city council.
The City Council attempted to locate the vandals who destroyed the cross of Santa Faz in Alicante during that Sábado Ramblero. However, security cameras provided no clues, and the investigation ended up in court.
