The Generalitat Valenciana faces one of the largest investments in history in the city of Alicante: 102 million euros in the Central Intermodal Station, a major communication hub that will interconnect AVE, Medium Distance, Tram and buses not only in Alicante but throughout the province. A project that will be tendered this October and will be completed before 2027. This is what the Minister of Infrastructure, Vicente Martínez Mus, expects according to his statement at the forum 'Parque Central, future of mobility and infrastructure in Alicante' organized by TodoAlicante at Casa Mediterráneo.

The Minister assures that the Central Station will be "a lever for the future" in urban mobility in Alicante similar to the implementation of the Tram just over twenty years ago. The communication infrastructure will "interconnect all types of transport not only for residents but also for visitors" in a province that receives three million tourists a year.

The Consell will soon tender the information sheet for the Tram line to the Clinical Hospital

What has been most difficult is "fitting the bus station" within the logistics hub, so Alicante City Council is working to complete the infrastructure and thus be able to remove the current provisional terminal from port lands. "It's not just about utilization," explained Martínez Mus, "but also about the entry and exit of vehicles" from Central Station and avoiding the traffic bottleneck that would form by bringing heavy vehicles like buses through downtown Alicante.

The Central Station of Alicante will be "a lever for the future," argues the Minister of Infrastructure, "as it will allow us to increase lines and reach new areas not only in Alicante but throughout the province." With this, frequencies will also be reduced, understands Martínez Mus, although he did not want to give timelines. But before they arrive, the transport infrastructure (with 52 months of construction) must be completed because "we need to finish Central Station before thinking about new tram and bus lines," expressed the Minister.

For now, regarding metropolitan transport, the most advanced project is the tram to Sant Joan and to the Clinical University Hospital. The Minister announced at TodoAlicante forum that everything is ready to tender the information sheet, which will be approved by the Consell shortly. "We are in contact with municipalities to find the best solution for the route," assured Martínez Mus.
