First Municipality in Alicante Suspends Classes This Friday Due to Rain

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has raised the weather warning from yellow to orange for the entire Alicante coast due to rain this Friday. Several municipalities have activated special plans in anticipation of the intense rainfall expected for this day, with a particular focus between 1 PM and 4 PM.

Alicante has been the first to announce the closure of the Santa Bárbara Castle, parks, and sports areas, including playgrounds and outdoor areas for seniors, although educational activities continue. However, the city has increased police presence at school exits.

El Campello has gone further by cancelling classes for this Friday, as announced by the town hall in a social media statement. The council, under the mayoral authority of Article 21.1.m of Law 7/1985, has announced a series of exceptional measures in response to this episode of intense rain.

Among these measures is the suspension of classes in all educational centres, as well as the permanent adult school and the official language school located in the town.

The cancellation of educational activities is accompanied by the closure of several municipal spaces such as public parks, the municipal cemetery, sports facilities, the cultural centre, and the municipal library.

Thus, the Town Hall of El Campello advises the public to stay informed through official channels and to avoid "outdoor activities and unnecessary travel." Additionally, it warns that "moderate damage may occur in exposed areas."

Several municipalities have joined the series of measures due to the orange alert, such as Busot or San Vicente, which have kept flood response plans active and recommend "caution and care, especially when travelling through public roads and green areas of the municipality."
