But, finally, the Vearte gallery - led by Venezuelan Laura León - has achieved it. It has positioned the city of Alicante, where it maintains its headquarters behind the Central Market, as an international capital of contemporary art.
This October, this private gallery has transformed into a fleeting museum capable of uniting both sides of the Atlantic. There are 22 artists from European or Latin origins who showcase their wonders in the Alicante facilities, as part of the fifth edition of the International Art Biennial of Armenia, Colombia (Biarco).
With this success, Vearte celebrates its first year in the city of Alicante. This time they have a new mission already accomplished, to serve as a "unifying and promoting agent of the event in Europe," explained Laura León, its manager and also curator of Biarco, in response to questions from TodoAlicante.
Their work, invisible during months of management and negotiation, has led both continents to focus on Alicante with this "world exhibition," connected with Colombia, which opens doors to "many latitudes" thanks to the participation of artists from all over, between "masters and emerging ones."
This exhibition is also distributed in Armenia, birthplace of Biarco, and grows in Alicante with the display of plastic works by participating artists from the Community, province and other cities in Spain, as well as numerous countries in Central and Latin America.
Among all these are Alicante names such as Elisabet Ibáñez, Jorge Lidiano, Paulina de la Casa, Pepe Gimeno, José Ramón Angulo, Maritza González and Cristina Álvarez; along with peninsular connections like Valencian Encarna Arnal.
Also participating across both sides of the Atlantic are Álvaro Gómez (Spain/Venezuela), Enrique Lemagne (Spain/Cuba), Justo Vera Ayesterán (Venezuela/USA), Miguel Ángel D'León (Spain/Cuba), Pablo Botero (Venezuela), Reinaldo Ortega (Spain/Cuba), Ronald Hernández (Spain/Venezuela), Sharon Karina Pulido (Spain/Colombia), Michel Acosto (Spain/Cuba), Gabriel Ávila (Spain/Cuba), Ronny Yépez (Spain/Argentina), Víctor Asuaje (Spain/Venezuela) and Leonor Hochschild (Spain/Mexico).
Their works coexist facing each other, engaging in a dialogue that "crosses borders" and turn the environment of Vearte gallery into "a party" that celebrates the achievement of turning the city of Alicante into an international capital of contemporary art, at least until October 23rd.
