Alicante concludes the third edition of the Smartphone Film Festival

The gala hosted by actress Vanesa Romero has presented its awards

Alicante Smartphone Film Festival concluded its third edition this Saturday with a closing gala held at the Casa de la Música de las Cigarreras, where awards were presented to the winning short films. The event was hosted by Alicante actress Vanesa Romero. A total of 2,500 euros in prizes were distributed in a contest sponsored by the Local Development Agency of the Alicante City Council 'Impulsalicante', along with the Provincial Council and the General Hospital of Alicante.

The award for the best short film "Fight against climate change" aimed at raising awareness about the importance of caring for our planet and the environment, in collaboration with Aguas de Alicante, was given to 'Ecological Awareness' by Matilda Camil. The prize included the distribution of the short film across all national festivals, valued at 1,200 euros, and was presented by Sergio Sánchez, general director of Aguas de Alicante. The award for best animated short film was presented by Antonio Peral, the presidency councillor of the Alicante City Council, and was awarded to 'Wiñequitos' by Matilda Camil, with a prize of 500 euros.

The Alicante actor Luis Miguel Seguí presented the award for the best comedy short film, which went to 'Floor by Floor' by Olivia Scot, with a prize of 500 euros. The award for the best international short film was given to 'Tomorrow' by French director Jean-Francois, also with a prize of 500 euros. The best director award was presented by filmmaker Alfredo Navarro and was awarded to 'No Exit' by Collin Natkaniec.

The award for best actress went to Carmen García and María Catalán for the short film 'The Girl in the Reflection'. The best actor award was presented by the festival director, David Seva Morera, and was awarded to Daniel Bosch for the short film 'Just in Time'.

The award for the best short film from the Province of Alicante was given to 'The Dinner' by Laura Jiménez Quesada, with a prize of 500 euros and distribution across national festivals.

The award for the best national fiction short film was presented by Mari Carmen de España to 'The Challenge' by José Ángel Peña and Eva Hidalgo, with a prize of 500 euros.

New creators

The Councillor for Employment and Development, Mari Carmen de España, president of the Local Development Agency of the Alicante City Council 'Impulsalicante', highlighted at the end of the gala "the boost this event represents for new creators and for the film industry in Alicante".

David Seva Morera, director of the Alicante Smartphone Film Festival, highlighted the great work done by the Festival "to create a strong pool of filmmakers in the province of Alicante and the excellent quality of the short films presented".

During the presentation of the 'Hospital de Cine' activity, Javier Gonzales de Dios, head of paediatrics at the General Doctor Balmis Hospital in Alicante, commented on "the excitement of this day where the hospital was transformed into a film set, where young oncology patients participated in the activities" and thanked the Festival's organisation for their great work and involvement with the Alicante Hospital once again.

The jury was represented by its president, actor Luis Miguel Seguí, who highlighted the quality of all the short films received and encouraged continued submissions for the next edition.
