Traffic surveillance cameras in El Campello have led to the arrest of two individuals allegedly accused of stealing part of a truck's cargo. The events date back to last Tuesday when the local police were alerted to the entry of a vehicle into the municipal area, which had been detected last month, also by the surveillance system, as being involved in a theft of items from inside a truck.
The investigation, conducted jointly by the Local Police and the Civil Guard, determined that the perpetrators fled towards El Campello, prompting the data to be entered into the traffic surveillance camera system, awaiting their return.
The system, operational 24 hours a day, detected a new entry on Tuesday afternoon in the Muchavista area. Local Police and Civil Guard patrols located the vehicle and intercepted it just 10 minutes after its entry into the beach area.
Of the four occupants, two were handed over to the Civil Guard for the theft, while the vehicle was seized by the Local Police for administrative matters, leaving the occupants to continue on foot.
The town hall reminds us that many such interventions are carried out, and traffic surveillance camera recordings are "crucial for resolving accidents, vehicles fleeing the scene, traffic violations, spills, or breaches of environmental legislation, among other cases."
This situation has prompted the Department of Security and Traffic, led by Rafael Galvañ, to commission a technical and economic study to expand the system with the installation of more cameras at various points in the municipality.
