Audi now offers, for the first time in the A5 range, two plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants with two power levels, featuring a new generation of high-voltage batteries with 45% more capacity. The A5 e-hybrid quattro with 299 horsepower starts at 65,170 euros, while the A5 hybrid quattro with a 270 kW propulsion system and more standard equipment starts at 76,770 euros. The more powerful "family" A5 Avant version starts at 78,950 euros.

The new A5 e-hybrid quattro models, available in both sedan and "family" body styles, come in two power levels. Initially, a 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine with 252 horsepower is offered, alongside an electric motor delivering up to 105 kW, with a combined power output of 299 HP. In the 367 horsepower versions, the Avant and Sedan models can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds; the 299 horsepower versions reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 5.9 seconds. All variants can achieve a top speed of 250 km/h.

The heart of the new plug-in hybrid A5 models is the new high-voltage battery located at the rear of the vehicle, which has increased its capacity to 25.9 kWh, representing an approximately 45% increase compared to previous generation plug-in hybrids. The maximum AC charging power increases to 11 kW, reducing the charging time from 0 to 100% to just 2.5 hours. Audi has also significantly enhanced the regenerative braking system's performance, and drivers can now adjust the energy recovery level in electric mode using the paddles on the steering wheel. In "EV" driving mode, the PHEV models operate exclusively on electric power. When driving in "hybrid" mode, the system maintains a specific charge level as needed to save enough electric energy for later use, such as for electric driving in the city.

The maximum AC charging power has increased from 7.4 kW (two-phase) to 11 kW (three-phase), depending on the infrastructure. A charging cable (mode 3, type 2 plug) for public charging and the e-tron compact charging system for home charging, which includes charging cables with domestic and industrial plugs, are included as standard. The Audi charging service provides access to numerous charging points in 29 European countries upon request.

When the brake pedal is pressed during deceleration, the plug-in hybrid A5 e-hybrid can recover up to 88 kW of power and feed the high-voltage battery. Operating as a generator, the electric motor handles more than 90% of all deceleration processes. The integrated brake control system ensures braking capability with minimal pedal pressure, as well as the best possible energy recovery. Hydraulic brakes are only used for stronger braking manoeuvres, and their activation has no effect on the braking feel for the driver, as the brake pedal and hydraulic brake system are decoupled. When driving in "hybrid" mode, the hybrid management system maintains the battery's charge state at the necessary level to save enough electric energy for later use, such as for electric driving in the city. The A5 Sedan e-hybrid quattro can travel up to 116 km solely on electric power in urban routes.

Like the entire A5 family, the plug-in hybrid PHEV models boast a high level of equipment. All new A5 PHEVs include progressive steering, a navigation system, MMI panoramic display, an inductive charging platform for the phone, three-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, LED Pro rear lights, auxiliary air conditioning, and 18-inch wheels as standard. The A5 e-hybrid quattro with the more powerful 367 horsepower propulsion system (starting at 78,950 euros) comes standard with the Black line exterior package, including the black style package, privacy glass, and 19-inch Sport wheels in a dark finish matching red brake calipers, giving it a particularly dynamic appearance. This version also includes the Comfort package as standard, with Matrix LED headlights, MMI passenger display, comfort key, or lane change warning. The parking system plus with distance indicator and surround cameras, sports seats in a combination of natural and synthetic leather, sports suspension, 19-inch wheels, and red brake calipers complete the extensive equipment.

The new Avant A5 has a boot volume of 361 litres. Folding the rear seats (in the standard 40:20:40 ratio) increases the capacity to 1,306 litres. In the Sedan model, the figures are 331 and 1,175 litres, respectively. The towing capacity with brakes is up to 1,900 kg, and up to 750 kg for trailers without brakes.
