Can I Park Two Vehicles in the Same Garage Space?

Perhaps the garage space is large enough to accommodate both a car and a motorcycle, for instance. Is this legal? Is it permissible?

"No. Only one vehicle can be parked in each garage space, as stipulated by the ordinances and urban planning regulations of each municipality. Moreover, each garage space has specific dimensions for different vehicles. In Madrid, the General Urban Development Plan of 2024 has introduced new types of spaces, including mixed ones, where a car and a motorcycle, moped, or bicycle can be parked," warns Manuela Julia Martínez Torres, president of the College of Property Administrators of Madrid, as reported by COPE.

"Why have new vehicles been considered? Because people now travel more with bicycles and electric scooters, and this has been acknowledged and regulated. However, except in this case, parking more than one vehicle in a single parking space is not permissible. Nor can bicycles be placed, for example, if there is extra space," she adds.

It is also noted that "there are communities where parking a vehicle and a motorcycle is allowed as long as it is within the limits of your space, even if not permitted by ordinances and urban planning regulations," a different case is when a neighbor occupies a common area with a motorcycle because it is close to their space and they believe it does not cause inconvenience.

"It may not cause inconvenience, but it is occupying a common element without the approval and agreement of the Homeowners' Association," which is not allowed.

And a final message to bear in mind: insurance companies have changed their policies, and now, in the event of a fire or accident in the garage, the compensation will be for the lower-valued vehicle parked at that time in the garage space.
