Jaume Munar and Martín Landaluce will replace Alejandro Davidovich and Pablo Carreño in the Davis Cup tie that Spain will play against Switzerland on February 1 and 2.

David Ferrer had to call upon Munar and Landaluce due to the physical issues and fatigue that Davidovich and Carreño have been experiencing following the Australian Open. The Malaga player barely managed to compete in the round of 16 match against American Tommy Paul, after winning in five sets and coming back from two sets down against Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jakub Mensik over a four-day period.

Munar and Landaluce join the Spanish team, which already includes Pedro Martínez and Roberto Carballés, and Ferrer still has the option to add a fifth player if necessary.

While Munar debuted in 2017 with Spain in the fifth match of a tie against Serbia, this will be Landaluce's opportunity to make his debut with the national team. The 19-year-old from Madrid earned his place after an impressive 2024, where he won his first Challenger. In Australia, he made it through the qualifying rounds and debuted in a Grand Slam main draw, losing to local player James McCabee. Over the past year, Landaluce has climbed 300 places in the rankings and is considered the greatest promise in Spanish tennis.

With this quartet, Spain will seek to qualify for the next round of the Davis Cup in Biel, Switzerland. In 2025, the tournament will once again change its format, introducing two rounds with home and away matches and an eight-team knockout phase in November in Bologna, Italy.

Ferrer’s team will travel to Switzerland on January 28, and if they defeat the Swiss, they will face either Denmark or Serbia in the next round. On Saturday, February 1, two singles matches will be played, followed by a doubles match and two more singles matches on Sunday, February 2.
