The motorcycle and light vehicle sector concluded February with an 8.4% decline compared to 2024. It is important to note that February 2025 had one less working day than February 2024. The high volume of registrations at the end of 2024, driven by the transition to Euro5+, is still evident.

According to José María Riaño, Secretary General of ANESDOR, "The market scenario we are experiencing in these early months of the year was expected after the very positive close of 2024 (+75.5% in December with 24,461 registrations), driven by the arrival of the new Euro5+ stage. Regarding the Euro stages, both Euro5 and Euro5+ are still not included in the environmental labelling regulation. Nearly 850,000 vehicles have received the C label when their emission levels are comparable to the ECO label, which is currently non-existent for motorcycles. It is necessary for the DGT to review and update this regulation to provide legal certainty to all these users."

The Royal Decree regulating the DGT's environmental labelling has not been updated since its implementation, and during this time, two Euro stages have been introduced in the L category.

According to this regulation, vehicles from the Euro5 and Euro5+ stages are in a legal void. Approximately 850,000 vehicles have received the C label without legal coverage to justify it, when based on emission levels, they should have received the ECO label. It is worth noting that the ECO label for motorcycles is currently non-existent.

This situation means that both the regulation of Low Emission Zones in most municipalities and various incentive policies discriminate against motorcycles and light vehicles, according to ANESDOR.

By Vehicle Type

The motorcycle market closed February with 13,945 registrations, an 8.5% decrease compared to February 2024. By usage type, scooters experienced a slight decline of 0.8% (7,862 units), road motorcycles fell by 13.3% (5,734 units), and off-road motorcycles dropped by 50.5% (339 units). By distribution channels, the business channel closed positively with a 2.3% increase, while both the rental channel (-33.5%) and the private channel (-9.6%) closed negatively.

Mopeds fell by 1% (834 units), mainly driven by the private channel, which, although it fell by 2.6%, recorded the highest volume of registrations (680 units).

Regarding other L category vehicle markets: heavy quadricycles closed positively with a 23.3% increase (477 units), while tricycles and light quadricycles fell by 28.3% (175 units) and 50.3% (154 units) respectively.

In terms of the sector as a whole by Autonomous Communities, the highest growth was experienced by the Valencian Community (+20%), followed by La Rioja (+8.3%), and Aragon and Asturias (+1.6%). The ranking by registered units is led by: Catalonia (3,311 units), Andalusia (3,196 units), and the Valencian Community (2,305 units), reflecting the renewal of the fleet due to the DANA effect.
