Quick and effective intervention by a Local Police officer in Xàbia was crucial in saving the life of a 16-month-old baby who was choking. The officers' training in first aid enabled them to perform maneuvers to open the child's airways until an ambulance arrived to transport the baby to a medical facility.
The incident occurred near Graüll school. The officers were on site to manage traffic during school dismissal when a mother ran towards them, pleading for help. She was carrying her unconscious child, who showed signs of suffocation. The officers immediately began resuscitation efforts while alerting medical services.
Thanks to the officer's swift reaction, the baby regained breathing and consciousness. Another patrol arrived promptly to transport the baby and mother to the Health Centre for medical evaluation.
The Security Councillor highlighted "the importance of the training and preparation provided to Local Police officers in first aid and advanced emergency techniques." According to municipal sources, the Local Police in Xàbia conduct 500 first aid interventions annually.
