The multiple applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in various aspects of daily activities continue to arouse as much curiosity as questions. While many warn of the dangers that can arise from this almost incomprehensible technology for most; there are also many who extol its virtues and the numerous benefits that can be harnessed in various sectors.
In this context, new AI applications are being discovered daily that go beyond the secrecy with which this type of technology is handled in the military industry. A clear example can now be found in Benidorm, where the City Council, in collaboration with the street cleaning and solid urban waste collection concessionaire (FCC), has presented a project for occupational risk prevention and worker protection through the implementation of a smart device.
Specifically, the invention, in the form of a helmet, has been named Halo-I. It is a device connected to the Halotech platform and during its testing phase, it met all established objectives.
As explained by municipal officials, the helmet allows the system to interact effectively with operators and collect data in real time. Among the conclusions drawn, according to Manu Marín, CEO of Halotech Digital Services S.L., its "effectiveness in risk detection has been confirmed since the combination of the device and platform proved highly effective in detecting and notifying risky situations such as falls or physical discomfort through automatic and manual SOS alerts."
Marín emphasized that the results were not only satisfactory from the company's perspective but also that workers themselves showed "high satisfaction" with the system, "highlighting its ease of use and comfort of the smart helmet."
Marín indicated that the implementation of the Halo-I device and Halotech platform "has demonstrated its transformative potential in workplace safety." He also noted that the goal is "to build a future where technology acts as a real-time lifesaver."
Therefore, he described this new device as "the beginning of our most ambitious mission to protect workers in all sectors and environments."
For his part, Benidorm's Councilor for Street Cleaning, Luis Navarro, highlighted "the importance of such initiatives" and stressed that "the safety of our workers is an absolute priority." Regarding the pilot project, he emphasized that "it has allowed us to see firsthand how technology can be effectively integrated into work processes to reduce risks and improve working conditions."
Navarro further stated that "we will continue exploring, delving into, and supporting any innovation that contributes to having a safer and more advanced city." In his opinion, initiatives like this "set milestones in public-private collaboration when it comes to advancing worker protection through technology." The councilor assured that both parties, City Council and company, will continue working together "to expand and improve this technology with the aim of implementing it on a larger scale in the city."
