National Police have arrested a 29-year-old Uruguayan man in Denia, who was subject to an international arrest warrant issued by his country for the sexual abuse of a six-year-old girl. He faces a potential sentence of twelve years in prison.
The assault, according to police sources, took place during the Christmas holidays of 2019 in Uruguay. The victim and her mother visited a family home to celebrate the festivities, alongside the now-detained individual and his family. At the time, the suspect was 24 years old.
On Christmas morning, the young girl went to greet the suspect in his bedroom, where he took the opportunity to undress her and touch her private parts. He repeated these actions hours later, also forcing the minor to touch him.
For these actions, a prison sentence of up to 12 years was requested, prompting the issuing country to release an international arrest warrant upon learning that the suspect had left the country. Consequently, officers from the Judicial Police of the National Police Station in Denia, having received information about his possible presence at a local residence, set up a surveillance operation, where they located and arrested him.
The fugitive was brought before the duty court in Denia by order of the Central Court of Instruction in Madrid, which is handling the case.
