The second-hand car market in Spain has seen a rise in prices during June. According to data from the National Association of Vehicle Dealers (Ancove), the average offer price of these vehicles increased by 2.1% year-on-year in June, reaching 13,046 euros.

Compared to the previous month, May, the increase was 1.1%. In the first half of the year, the average price stands at 12,812 euros, representing a rise of 1.2%.

This upward trend occurs in a context of intense activity, with 173,667 used cars sold in June. A significant fact is that 63.6% of these vehicles are over eight years old, highlighting the importance of the older car segment in the Spanish second-hand market.

Analyzing the situation by autonomous communities, Ancove highlights that only in Cantabria, Extremadura, Galicia, and La Rioja were second-hand cars bought cheaper than a year ago. Conversely, Asturias and the Balearic Islands recorded the highest price increases. The increase was particularly notable in cars over eight years old, which saw their prices rise in all communities, with Asturias again leading the largest increases.

Eric Iglesias, president of Ancove, attributes the "strong increase" in June to "the rush to buy a car ahead of the holidays," although he notes that the 2.1% increase was slightly lower than the CPI for the same month.

However, Iglesias insists on the "moderation of the second-hand market," particularly in the segment of cars less than eight years old, where dealer activity is concentrated.

The 1.2% increase in the first half of the year occurs "despite the incorporation of electrified units, which leads to an increase in the overall market," concluded the president of Ancove.
