Starting at 8:30 PM on Saturday, the entire historic center turned off its lights to transform Sant Joan into a different place, unlike anything seen before. Despite the large turnout, traffic, security, and parking arrangements operated smoothly, thanks to the more than 1,500 parking spaces available for the event.
Several performances accompanied 'La Noche en Vela,' including dance exhibitions by Nuria del Alba's students, a children's storytelling session in Plaza de España, concerts inside the church by 'Música Celestial,' performances by Cuarteto Repiques and Da Good Band. Albaladre performed their repertoire of melodic songs in Plaça Josep Carreras to close the program.
Santiago Román, the town's mayor, stated that this second edition of 'La Noche en Vela' "has been a success." He also took the opportunity to announce that in the next edition Jaime I Street will be closed "so that its hospitality sector can also benefit from these measures."
"We are a town full of enthusiasm and life thanks to many, many people who work night after night and also day after day to share their light and make everyone else's shine," said David Aracil, Councillor for Culture, expressing the sentiment of thousands of residents who came out to enjoy a unique night in Sant Joan.
