Education's Department plans to imminently close the CEFIRE (Teacher Training Service) in Elda. This was announced by the town council through a statement after the decision was communicated to them by the regional department this Friday.

The Councillor for Education, María Gisbert, highlighted that this decision by the Department 'poses a serious detriment to the teaching staff, as the proximity of the centre allows them to adapt all annual programmes to the characteristics of our city and region, creating more efficient and effective networks and resources.'

'We are very concerned,' continued the councillor, 'about the lack of response to the requests made by the Municipal School Council, as these issues affect us all, impact our families' lives, and hinder the development and progress of public education and equal opportunities. But we will not stand idly by, we will not allow it because it is an injustice. Education and progress as a society are not being valued.'

Elda's CEFIRE began its journey in 1991, with the aim of 'promoting teacher training as a professional, encouraging the participation and collaboration of parents and guardians, attention to diversity, capacity development, fostering educational and instructive habits, research activity, educational guidance, and active methodology, among many others,' explains Gisbert, who has urged Education to 'commit to public education at all levels and forms, to listen to the educational community and put an end to the cuts.'
