The Civil Guard is investigating a 22-year-old Spanish national for an alleged public health offense, after being intercepted in the town of Jávea with 24 bottles of nitrous oxide gas, commonly known as 'laughing gas'.

The incident occurred on the early morning of August 20, during a security prevention service conducted by Civil Guard agents from the Calpe Company in the Cala Blanca area of Jávea. They observed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the cove. Investigators detected two individuals inside the vehicle and two others outside, who were interacting with the occupants of the car.

Upon noticing the police presence, the four individuals began to make suspicious movements, prompting the agents to approach and inspect the situation. As they drew closer, investigators detected a strong smell identified as marijuana, which led to a search of the vehicle.

During the inspection, two colored balloons were found under the front seats, along with a plastic container that held marijuana residue. Additionally, a blue metal canister containing nitrous oxide was discovered. The search continued, revealing a total of 23 additional canisters of the same gas in various parts of the vehicle, bringing the total to 24 bottles, according to reports from the Civil Guard.

Given the observed irregularities and confirming that the nitrous oxide could be used improperly with consequent health risks, the agents proceeded to open an investigation into the vehicle's owner for a public health offense and confiscated the gas bottles.
