The Generalitat Valenciana will duplicate the main conduit of the Júcar-Vinalopó transfer. President Carlos Mazón has announced that in the "coming weeks," the drafting of this project to improve the infrastructure will be commissioned, with works estimated to have a budget of around 40 million euros.

This announcement was made by the highest representative of the Valencian Executive during the first harvest of 'Vinalopó Bagged Grapes' event held in Monforte del Cid. The head of the Consell explained that "the Government of change fulfills its commitments and duties with our farmers and irrigators," reaffirming their commitment to the sector as one of their "priority areas of action."

He highlighted the swift implementation of phases I and II of the post-Júcar-Vinalopó transfer "with a combined investment of 33 million euros to improve irrigation systems across 30,000 hectares in the municipalities of Agost, Elche, Novelda, Petrer, and Monforte del Cid."

In this regard, he indicated that the works on Phase I are progressing 'at a good pace' and the second phase has been awarded to be executed "in parallel" so that the infrastructure will be operational "by summer 2026."

On another note, the president lamented that while the Consell is "shortening deadlines and executing works on a strategic water infrastructure," the Government of Spain "continues to neglect and hinder" the development of Alicante province by halting modernization and rehabilitation works on the San Diego reservoir in Villena.

He regretted that the Ministry "has done nothing with this project," asserting that this infrastructure "should be priority number one in the central government's actions to fulfill its commitment to the Júcar-Vinalopó transfer."

Regarding another transfer supplying Alicante province, Tajo-Segura, Mazón reiterated his demand for "the water that is rightfully ours," criticizing that the central government "has created a water debt with the Valencian Community, adding to financial or strategic infrastructure debts."

In this context, Mazón advocated for a "water distribution based on rigor and objectivity rather than ideological or electoral considerations," highlighting the alliance between the Valencian Community and Murcia, Andalusia, and Madrid regions "to jointly and coordinatedly present objections to the exploitation rules of the Tajo-Segura transfer in a historic alliance representing over 23 million Spaniards."
