The Spanish Embassy in Chile has filed a complaint with the Chilean Carabineros regarding images published by a local media outlet of Princess Leonor during her visit to a shopping centre in Punta Arenas, where the training ship 'Juan Sebastián de Elcano' docked this week, sources from Zarzuela reported on Saturday.

Although these are not the first images of the Princess of Asturias during her leisure time while on the training cruise aboard 'Elcano', on this occasion they were obtained in a manner contrary to current regulations, both in Chile and Spain.

Thus, the images showing the heir to the throne entering the shopping centre and walking inside, dressed in warm clothing, originate from the establishment's security cameras, indicating that some of the security control personnel facilitated access to the media outlet that published them.

"This action constitutes a violation of the current data protection regulations in Chile," the sources stated, emphasizing that "such conduct is unacceptable" and asserting that "not everything is permissible."

In this regard, "in coordination with the Spanish Embassy, it has been decided to report this administrative violation" to the Carabineros, the sources specified.

The 'Juan Sebastián de Elcano' arrived in Punta Arenas this Tuesday on its voyage from the Atlantic to the Pacific, having already called at Salvador de Bahia (Brazil) and Montevideo (Uruguay), and will next head towards the Chilean port of Valparaiso.

During port stops, it is customary for the midshipmen aboard the training ship to enjoy leisure time, in addition to participating in various military and cultural activities typically organized on land in honour of their visit.

It was precisely during this leisure time that the Princess of Asturias was photographed at the shopping centre, where, according to Chilean press reports, she visited several stores, including one where she showed interest in how mate is made.

Daily life on board, for both Princess Leonor and her companions, begins at 7:00 a.m. with reveille. Between 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., the midshipmen attend classes as part of their naval training, and after a lunch break, they have another two hours of classes, usually until 6:00 p.m.

In addition to this, there are watches, lasting two or four hours, throughout the day at various posts on the ship, along with night watches, with four-hour shifts between midnight and 8:00 a.m., typically conducted every other night, and the various manoeuvres they must perform during navigation.
