La Policía Local de Elche has arrested a 22-year-old man for assaulting and causing minor injuries to two officers. The alleged assailant was recklessly driving an electric scooter and fled when the officers attempted to stop him, leading to a chase that ended with the young man being subdued after a struggle with the police.
The incident occurred when officers were patrolling on foot in the historic centre of the city of Elche. There, they observed a young man riding an electric scooter in a reckless manner on Corredora Street, zigzagging and performing manoeuvres that endangered pedestrians.
The officers signalled for him to stop, but the young man did not comply and sped away to avoid capture, initiating a chase that concluded at Plaza de la Merced, where officers noted a strong smell of alcohol emanating from the young man.
The young man refused to identify himself and lunged at one of the officers, striking him on the head and attempting to flee. This led to a struggle between the officers and the detainee, who continued to hit them, causing minor injuries to both until he was subdued. Consequently, he was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of offences against law enforcement officers and road safety.
