Several municipalities in the northern regions of Alicante province have announced the return to school this Thursday. The yellow alert decree for the coming hours will allow classes to resume after several days of suspension.
The first town to announce this decision was Pego, in Marina Alta. The City Council will reopen all schools on Thursday, March 6, following a meeting between Cecopal and Cecopi on Wednesday afternoon.
Likewise, after 9:00 PM on Wednesday, other towns such as Calp, Els Poblets, Gata, Pedreguer, Benitatxell, Dénia, and Xàbia also announced that they will resume classes.
Several of these municipalities have explained that the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) will maintain the yellow alert until 9:00 AM this Thursday and that «it is expected to turn green after this time.»
At the same time, they emphasize that Emergencies 112 «is currently maintaining the flood emergency situation, as rain is expected in the inland valleys of the region, although the likelihood of rain is expected to decrease in the rest of Marina Alta.»
Thus, the different Cecopal organizations in these municipalities have decided to resume classes as normal in schools and municipal educational activities. However, they recommend continuing to take precautions and avoiding driving through flooded areas, ravines, or rivers.
This situation has also occurred in several municipalities of the neighboring region, Marina Baixa in Alicante. For example, Callosa d'en Sarrià has decided to resume suspended activities as normal due to the change in the emergency status (from orange to yellow), deeming it appropriate to continue with regular activities.
La Nucia, along with Finestrat, Altea, and Polop, will resume the classes and activities that were suspended during the last two days.
Regarding universities, the only one that has confirmed the suspension of in-person classes for this Thursday is the UPV campus in Alcoi.
