NAD, the industrial group that includes SHAD, in collaboration with Yamaha, has developed the first motorcycle case with keyless technology based on induction.

The new Yamaha Tracer 9 GT is the chosen model to debut this new system, which represents a qualitative leap in terms of functionality, comfort, and safety.

Unlike most keyless solutions on the market, which connect the motorcycle's control unit to the case via cables or super connectors, NAD's innovation lies in the use of a technology called WPT (Wiring Power Transfer) where, through proximity, two plates (a transmitter and a receiver) transfer energy without having metallic contact.

Using this technology avoids potential connection issues caused by water, humidity, dirt, or connector wear. It also allows for easier mounting and dismounting of the cases, as there is no wiring or connector involved.

This energy transfer allows the case to be opened and closed, while also providing courtesy light or USB charging port. Additionally, if the motorcycle starts moving without the cases being closed, the control unit will send a signal to automatically close them when the motorcycle exceeds 10 km/h.

The main technological challenge faced by NAD was related to the time required for the transmitter and receiver to pair. Initially, this time was considered excessive for the project's goals, as it was around five seconds. Thanks to the software redesign, this protocol has been reduced to just 0.6 seconds, making pairing almost instantaneous, thus improving the user experience.

"A team of mechanical and electronic engineers from NAD participated in the project, investing around 4,000 hours and conducting over 10,000 km of tests. Additionally, all components have been internationally certified for industrialization and commercialization. This way, the challenges of this project have been overcome over the four years needed to develop the motorcycle and its accessories," explained the press department of the Spanish brand specializing in motorcycle equipment.
