National Police in Elda have arrested a woman who did not take the end of a romantic relationship well. Instead of accepting her partner's decision, she allegedly sought revenge by setting fire to her ex-partner's moped. The consequences could have been much more severe, as the flames spread to other vehicles and the facade of a building, putting residents at risk.
The officers had to act quickly to evacuate an entire street, preventing personal injuries. The fire destroyed the aforementioned moped and two cars. Additionally, it caused damage worth 4,500 euros to the nearest block, according to police sources.
The investigation initiated by the Judicial Police of the Elda Police Station helped clarify the incident. The inquiries led to the suspect, a woman who already had a criminal record for other incidents, as detailed by the same sources.
However, the incident was not connected to those previous offences but rather to the romantic relationship she had with the owner of the moped where, according to the investigation, the fire started. The victim decided to end the relationship, and apparently, she retaliated.
The events occurred in the middle of the night. The Police Station activated a unit of the Local Security Brigade of the National Police to move to the street where the fire had been declared. Upon arrival, the officers found that a moped, two parked cars, and part of a building's facade were affected by the flames.
Faced with the evident risk, the Police initiated an emergency protocol and cordoned off the area. Immediately, they evacuated the street until the Fire Service arrived, which fortunately managed to extinguish the fire before more significant damage occurred.
Initial investigations indicated that the fire had started in the moped and then spread to nearby vehicles and the adjacent building. The Local Judicial Police Brigade of the Elda-Petrer Police Station took over the case investigation. Thanks to the efforts made, the officers managed to identify the alleged perpetrator, a 25-year-old woman who already had a record for various incidents, police sources report.
The findings revealed that the motive for the incident was personal, as the owner of the two-wheeled vehicle had been in a romantic relationship with the suspect. After he refused to continue the relationship, due to "certain negative behaviours of the woman," she allegedly decided to burn his moped in retaliation. The woman was located in Elda and immediately arrested before being brought to justice.
The material damage was considerable, the Police emphasise. The two cars were completely destroyed, and the damage to the facade of the residential block was valued at over 4,500 euros. The arrested woman is under judicial investigation for a crime of damage caused by fire.
The National Police remind the public of the importance of reporting any criminal act that could endanger property or people. They stress that citizen collaboration, combined with rapid police action, helps prevent major tragedies and ensures public safety.
"Reporting violent behaviour, threats, or reprisals is essential to prevent risky situations and protect both people and public and private property," they highlight.
