The National Police have arrested a 58-year-old Spanish woman in Alcoi for stealing jewellery and a valuable watch from the house where she worked as a live-in caregiver. The alleged perpetrator of the theft was brought before the local Magistrate's Court in Alcoi, while the recovered jewellery has been returned to its rightful owner.
The investigation began when officers received a complaint from the family of an elderly woman, who reported the disappearance of her jewellery. The complaint mentioned that the victim had two hired caregivers, and suspicion fell on the household environment as there were no signs of forced entry.

After verifying the facts, the Judicial Police conducted inquiries with precious metal pawn shops, locating a significant portion of the stolen jewellery, which had been sold by one of the elderly woman's caregivers.
Inquiries with the caregivers' company revealed that one of them was hired for the first and only time and no longer worked at the victim's home. The police also discovered that she had previously been reported for similar offences.
Once the alleged perpetrator was fully identified, various efforts were made to locate her. It was discovered that she was due to attend a medical appointment at a health centre in Alcoi, where a police operation was set up to secure her arrest.
