The Public Employees Union of the Valencian Community (SEP-CV) has won a court ruling that mandates the Alicante City Council to pay the holiday bonus to municipal employees who work on public holidays throughout the year. The ruling from the Administrative Court No. 4 of Alicante states that "the remuneration for the holiday period cannot differ from that of other months," as otherwise, "it would not be considered full remuneration."
The judge concludes that "if this amount is not paid, the enjoyment of holidays would be economically penalised, which would be incompatible with the principle of fully paid holidays." Furthermore, the ruling, according to SEP-CV, "declares the right of the City Council employees to receive back payments for the four years prior to their application to the Administration."
The claim for the holiday bonus had been repeatedly requested by the SEP-CV union section in the Alicante City Council, without receiving a response from the government team. The court's decision "represents progress in the rights of hundreds of municipal workers," according to the union.
