Residents of a village in Alicante played a key role in arresting a repeat thief from the El Comtat area. The arrested man, 31 years old, allegedly stole three brush cutters from a parked car in Beniarrés.
It was the residents of this small town in El Comtat who took pictures and videos of the vehicle used in the robbery. The car was known among the residents of Beniarrés, Benilloba, and other nearby towns, as well as by officers stationed in the area, as it had committed similar thefts.
According to the Benemérita, the events occurred on September 9th when the perpetrators broke the rear window of a parked vehicle in Beniarrés and took three brush cutters valued at 5,000 euros.
Thanks to the videos taken by residents, officers managed to identify the owner of the vehicle just one day later, moving the Civil Guard to Alcoi to arrest this man, who already had a record for similar incidents.
In fact, the Benemérita found various tools used for theft in the trunk of the vehicle, such as bolt cutters, a crowbar, a saw, and a night vision device, as well as a black hoodie and gloves.
Thanks to citizen collaboration, it was possible to identify the three perpetrators of the robbery, who were already known to authorities for being involved in similar crimes. On September 11th, the stolen material was recovered and, a day later, an investigation was initiated into the other two suspected perpetrators involved, two men aged 29 and 19.
The detainee has been brought before Court No. 2 of Alcoy which has ordered his release pending trial. Additionally, the court has been informed about the investigation of other responsible parties.
