The episode of heavy rains continues, remnants of the storm that has swept through central Europe, and will persist at least until Sunday with considerable intensity. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) maintains a yellow alert this Thursday for the northern coast and the interior of the province of Alicante in anticipation of heavy precipitation.
These are typical September rains, very irregular and mainly affecting the coast, where showers have concentrated in certain areas leading to very different accumulations in nearby zones. For instance, the town of Biar in Alicante accumulated 91 liters per square meter this Wednesday afternoon due to the rains, according to data from the Avaemet station, which highlighted that this storm is "a clear example of the irregularity of the rains in this episode."
In this regard, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) explained that Biar was "the exception to the afternoon showers," as a storm with few lightning strikes became static early in the afternoon and left "very heavy or torrential rainfall in a highly localized area between Biar, Onil, and Castalla."
