The yellow alert issued by the Spanish Meteorological Agency (Aemet) for strong winds in the province of Alicante is beginning to have consequences in various municipalities. Some towns in the province of Alicante have already decided to cancel outdoor activities and have ordered the closure of parks and green areas.

The Emergency and Civil Protection Department of the Orihuela City Council reports on the closure of outdoor facilities in the municipality, such as the sports facilities around the Palmeral, parks, and green areas throughout Tuesday. Similarly, it is also recommended not to engage in outdoor activities until the alert ends.

On the other hand, to prevent possible accidents due to the strong gusts of wind expected, Civil Protection and the Local Police of Orihuela have cordoned off the perimeter of the Gabriel Miró Glorieta, at the height of Duque de Tamames Avenue, as well as the children's areas of the Severo Ochoa, Bernardo Ruiz (Ocarasa), and Miguel Hernández (San Antón) parks.

It is not the only municipality affected by winds of up to 120 kilometres per hour, particularly in the interior. The Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium carried out four operations due to the windstorm during the early hours of Monday to Tuesday. Two of these were due to trees falling on public roads in Pinoso and San Vicente del Raspeig.

According to the organisation, personnel also responded in Benissa and Muro d'Alcoi following reports of streetlights about to fall. No injuries or significant damage were reported in these incidents.

Aemet maintains the warning for strong winds on the Alicante coast and in the province's interior, with gusts that could exceed 80 kilometres per hour, a figure that has been surpassed during the night.

According to data from the Valencian Meteorological Association (Avamet), Villena has recorded the highest gusts, with wind speeds of 120 kilometres per hour. Crevillent, with 108 km/h, and Alcoi, with 106 km/h, have also recorded significant figures.

Several municipalities have recorded gusts of over 90 kilometres. The Marina Baja or l'Alcoià are among the most affected areas, with winds ranging from 93 km/h to 105 km/h.

In fact, Villena has been the fifth locality in the entire Valencian Community where the strongest wind gusts have been measured, behind Xodos, Ayora, Bunyol, and Betxi, according to data from the Avamet network.
