Alicante bids farewell to summer in the least pleasant way, at least weather-wise. Those who extended their vacations over the weekend to enjoy the last days of sun and beach on Saturday, August 31st, and Sunday, September 1st will be disappointed. The final days of meteorological summer will be accompanied by rain, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The province will end the holidays with cloudy intervals and possible haze in high areas. Additionally, isolated showers with storms are not ruled out.

Sunday maintains almost the same forecast, although rains may occasionally appear with storms inland. The coast is not spared either, and there could be scattered storms or rain along the entire Alicante coastline.

As for temperatures, they will remain unchanged over the weekend regarding maximums, with a slight drop in minimums on Saturday. The rain won't bring much relief from the heat as temperatures will start to drop slightly from Monday, September 2nd.

On Saturday, winds will blow moderately from the northeast on the coast and light from the east elsewhere. On Sunday, winds will be light and variable, with moderate northeast intervals on the coast during the first half of the day.

AEMET forecasts a warmer and drier autumn than usual

There is a 60-70% chance that autumn will be warmer than usual and a 40-50% chance that it will be drier, according to the seasonal forecast by AEMET for September, October, and November.

Thus, meteorological autumn will start on September 1st with storms in wide areas of the Peninsula and Balearic Islands, a trend that will mark the first half of the month according to predictions from Eltiempo.es and Meteored.

Using the period from 1991-2020 as a reference, AEMET has indicated that there is a higher probability that the average temperature will fall within the warm tercile across Spain. Additionally, it has detailed that there is a higher probability that accumulated precipitation will fall within the dry tercile across the country, except in the northeastern peninsula where it is equally likely for autumn to be drier than usual or rainier.
