The first days of 2025 will continue the instability in the Mediterranean area that ended New Year's Eve, causing cancellations or changes in some of the New Year's Eve parties planned in the province of Alicante. All this is due to a storm that poured up to 35 litres per square metre in towns like Santa Pola this Tuesday, potentially spoiling the celebrations for some around midnight or into the early hours.
Thus, New Year's Day could still see locally heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms, along with a rise in minimum temperatures, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) this Tuesday. However, the national agency has lifted the yellow alert that was issued at the start of the week.

Although Aemet expects a rise in minimum temperatures over the Epiphany weekend, on the 1st, temperatures will see little change, and frosts will be widespread in the northern and eastern interiors.

As for the wind, it will be light with an easterly component, with a levante in the Strait, and shifting from the southwest on the coasts of Galicia and western Cantabria.
Between Thursday and Saturday, instability will subside in the Mediterranean area, although some locally heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms may still occur during the early hours of the 2nd in the southeastern coastal areas of the peninsula.
On the other hand, fronts are expected to arrive from the Atlantic, with precipitation spreading across Galicia. Fog will become less extensive and persistent, while temperatures will gradually rise, especially the minimums, reducing the extent and intensity of frosts.
The first weekend of the year and Epiphany will bring precipitation across much of the Cantabrian and Atlantic slopes, stronger and more persistent in the west of Galicia and the Central system, and less likely and intense further east. Aemet warns that the west and southwest winds are likely to strengthen in the Peninsula and Mediterranean area.
Minimum temperatures will continue to rise, restricting frosts to mountainous areas, while maximums could drop on Monday 6th in the northwest. In the Canary Islands, stability is likely to continue, with mostly clear skies, easterly winds, and little change in temperatures.
