Improvement works on the Camí Vell d'Altea, the road linking Benidorm and l'Alfàs del Pi via the l'Albir area, popularly known as the 'tourist road', are set to begin in the coming weeks. From this Monday, traffic in the area will be reduced to a single lane, prompting local authorities in l'Alfàs to warn of potential 'peak hour traffic jams'.

The Urban Planning Councillor of l'Alfàs del Pi, Toni Such, attended the commencement of the works in person, urging 'cooperation and necessary caution in these situations'. He further explained that this project represents 'an investment of €851,998.99, fully funded by European funds'.

Such announced that 'the initial timeline for the works is six months', significantly impacting traffic flow in and out of the l'Albir area during Easter, the first major tourist influx on the Costa Blanca, and likely extending into the summer period.

Nonetheless, the local Urban Planning official assured that the government team is 'very pleased to announce the start of works on a project deemed vitally important, continuing many proposals outlined in the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of l'Alfàs del Pi'.

'These works will facilitate better pedestrian and cyclist transit, not only on this specific road but throughout the entire municipality, and will also enhance connectivity with other municipalities in the region,' Such stated.

As the works progress, a second phase is planned in the same area, involving the installation of state-of-the-art LED lighting with regulation and control systems tailored to the needs of the entire tourist road.

'We are discussing an investment of €109,457.55 to equip a new clean urban transport infrastructure with the necessary lighting for its use, also fully funded by European funds,' Toni Such emphasised.
