Vithas Alicante Hospital has implemented a new Tinnitus Unit with an innovative approach to treating these bothersome noises. The team's goal is to identify behaviors that trigger the annoying buzzing and work towards a solution.

Tinnitus refers to the annoying sounds we hear inside the ear without any external source producing them. Typically, this sound resembles a ringing or buzzing and can be perceived in one or both ears, or even felt as if it is generated inside the head.

The origin of tinnitus can be found along the entire auditory pathway, with numerous causes that can provoke it. According to experts, it is increasingly common for patients to seek consultations for tinnitus related to jaw issues and changes in bite alignment.

The connection between the oral and auditory apparatus is significant, so any intervention in the mouth can affect the ears and generate tinnitus. For example, treatments such as unsupervised invisible orthodontics can alter the patient's bite, causing poor dental occlusion and, consequently, tinnitus.

Tensions generated by poor teeth alignment in facial muscles also affect ear muscles. Increased mandibular pressure can trigger a series of repercussions on other functions of the temporal bone and structures related to the anatomy and physiology of the head and neck, producing these annoying noises and a sensation of blockage.

Ototech Therapy

The team's objective is to identify and modify behaviors that trigger the annoying ringing and buzzing in the ears. Additionally, Vithas Alicante offers innovative Ototech therapy, which employs a low-intensity electric current in the mastoid area (the most posterior portion of the base of the skull) to generate changes in the patient's inner ear, thereby correcting functional defects that produce tinnitus.

With these advanced techniques and a specialized team, Vithas Alicante positions itself at the forefront of comprehensive tinnitus treatment, significantly improving patients' quality of life.
