Villena Strengthens Local Police Force with 12 New Positions

The Villena Local Police will expand with an increase in its workforce. The measures taken by the City Council will address the needs for officers, superintendents, and agents. Some will assume their new professional category through internal promotion, others through the mobility system, and four agent positions will be filled through the open competition selection process.

The Personnel Councillor, Juan José Olivares, explained that these intermediate command positions will enable a better distribution of tasks, strengthen coordination in shifts, and establish levels of responsibility to improve working conditions for the staff and enhance their ability to meet objectives as the Local Police.

Meanwhile, the Local Police Councillor, Sergio Palao, believes that the department is providing a good service to the public but always requires personnel adjustments, team consolidation, and preparation of its organizational structure to meet the changing needs of the city. "A better distribution of command capacity facilitates improved coordination and utilization of human resources," Palao stated.

In addition to these two ongoing calls, the approval of the selection bases for seven agents was added in the last meeting of the Local Government Board. In this case, four of them would be through open competition, while the other three would be reserved for agents wishing to serve in Villena from other forces, thanks to the mobility reservation system.

Olivares believes it is necessary to continue adapting the Local Police workforce to the department's needs, in line with the population growth and the numerous activities organized almost daily by society and the City Council. Furthermore, the Contracting Councillor recalled the vast distances within the municipal area, which pose a management challenge regarding patrols and other security and administrative police operations.
