The mayor of Villena, Fulgencio Cerdán, signed the Employment Pact for Alto and Medio Vinalopó - Global Agreement on Wednesday, alongside other mayors from the region at the Labora Employment Forum held in Elda. Cerdán highlighted "the importance of continuing to work on improving working conditions and reducing unemployment in the region." In Villena, last January saw a 4.9% decrease in the number of job seekers compared to the same month in 2024.

Villena was represented by the mayor; the employment councillor, Paula García, and the director of the Office for Promotion and Economic Development. The signing of the Pact was endorsed by the president of this forum, the mayor of Elda, Rubén Alfaro.

"We are on the right track. Undoubtedly, Villena is performing well in terms of employment, thanks to the arrival of new companies in our municipality and the expansion of existing ones. The City Council, aware of the importance of offering quality employment, has created new tools under development to encourage business investment in Villena," commented the mayor.

Meanwhile, the employment councillor pointed out that it is important to ensure access to job training for people with the greatest difficulties accessing the market. Therefore, she advocated for the need to support employment workshops and other training resources. García believes it is important "to bridge the gap that puts a significant group of the population at risk of exclusion, which, if not addressed by public administration, risks being sidelined from labour insertion."

Throughout this Wednesday, a new edition of the Labora en Rueda program is being held, an itinerant initiative across the Valencian Community that becomes a meeting forum between companies from different sectors and job seekers.
