Villena is currently immersed in the celebration of its fifth centenary as a city. To mark this occasion, the City Council has announced a competition to compose a commemorative musical march for the moment when King Charles I granted this title on February 1, 1525.
This competition, open until April 27, welcomes composers of any age and nationality. The prize is 2,500 euros, along with its presentation to the public on May 24, as part of the fifth centenary celebrations.
Thus, the winning piece and its author "will become part of Villena's history and a protagonist in its musical composition," explained Eva García, head of the Fifth Centenary Commission. She also emphasized that this prize "is one of the most significant in the region, both for its financial reward and its symbolic meaning."
The winning composition will set the pace for the civic commemorative march that Villena will celebrate with a parade for its fifth centenary as a city. The jury will be chaired by Mayor Fulgencio Cerdán and will include two music experts appointed by the City Council and a third proposed by the Municipal Band.
