Villena has joined the network of seismographs that the University of Alicante has throughout the province of Alicante for earthquake monitoring, as part of the emergency safety plan. The installation of this measuring device, located in one of the municipal facilities in the city center, is part of the project being carried out by the Chair of Seismology and Earthquake Geology of the University of Alicante, thanks to the collaboration of the Villena City Council, which forms the Seismic Network of the Valencian Community.

The mayor of Villena, Fulgencio Cerdán, highlighted "the importance of collaborating with the scientific teams of the University of Alicante because they are also a key piece in terms of knowledge, therefore of anticipation, preparation, and organization in the face of possible emergency situations."

Throughout this week, the mayor has asked the technicians to review the Municipal Territorial Plan for Emergencies available to the City Council, a document that outlines the measures and actions, as well as the hypothetical risks, in situations that may endanger infrastructures or people's lives. The mayor indicated that "the situation experienced in the province of Valencia has made us review this Emergency Plan to make a review in case it is necessary to make any modification or update, although it is a document completed some time ago, but fully in force."

The DANA situation has prompted a check of the situation and the needs of the city in the face of potential natural disasters. Within this strategy is the comprehensive renovation, which is being carried out in phases, of infrastructures such as rural roads, the control of ditches, and the improvement of the underground supply, sanitation, and rainwater network, in many cases, over 60 years old.
