Villena City Council will undertake the repair and improvement of the rural roads of La Garita and Zaricejo, as announced by the Councillor for Environment and Agriculture of Villena City Council, Francisco Iniesta, following the decision approved at the Local Government Board meeting held last Monday, June 16.
Both roads, heavily used by farmers, landowners, and residents, will see their infrastructure renewed to facilitate mobility, improve road safety, and enhance accessibility for residents. For this purpose, a budget allocation from the municipal land heritage fund amounting to a total of 954,000 euros has been designated.
On the La Garita road, work will be carried out on a 2-kilometre stretch, where vegetation clearance will be performed, along with the comprehensive repair of the pavement by applying a six-centimetre thick asphalt layer, complemented by the installation of new horizontal and vertical signage.
Clearing and Cleaning of Margins
Meanwhile, the intervention on the Zaricejo road will cover a 3.5-kilometre stretch. The road will be cleared, and the margins and ditches will be cleaned. Additionally, new concrete ditches and floodable speed bumps will be created to improve water drainage and prevent damage from adverse weather conditions. This work will also include structural pavement repair and the installation of horizontal and vertical signage.
The deadline for submitting bids will be 20 days, after which the contract will be awarded. Once awarded, the execution period for the works will be three months.
These interventions are part of a broader plan to improve the network of rural roads in the municipal area of Villena, which includes a total investment of 2,500,000 euros and encompasses future actions on the Sax-Yecla, Vereda de Caudete, and Levante roads.
The councillor stated that "the roads of La Garita and Zaricejo were the most deteriorated in the municipal area and, therefore, required the most urgent intervention," and assured that the City Council will continue to carry out the remaining planned actions.
