Villena Embraces Family Tourism in its Historic Centre

Villena's Councillor for Tourism, Paula García, alongside oral storyteller Miguel Ángel Montilla, introduced the 'Word of Story. Open-air Oral Narration' activity this Wednesday. This new cultural and tourism project aims to "revive meeting spaces through words" and will take place on July 4th, 5th, and 6th at Plaza Maestro Moltó in the San Antón neighbourhood.

This entirely free initiative seeks to promote family tourism in Villena's historic centre as part of the city's 500th-anniversary celebrations. The programme kicks off on Friday, July 4th at 10:00 PM with a storytelling session for adults by the experienced Japanese-origin storyteller, Yoshi Hioski.

Following this, on Saturday, July 5th, starting at 6:00 PM, the 'Count with Your Hands' ceramics workshop will be held, led by Rosana Díaz, to highlight artisanal crafts and encourage interaction among participants. At 7:30 PM, the activity will continue with the 'The Art of Storytelling' workshop, aimed at developing narrative skills.

Saturday's events will conclude with an adult storytelling session by Susu Benítez at 10:00 PM.

On Sunday, July 6th, the programme will begin at 6:15 PM with a family workshop designed to connect and share through creative board games. To close, at 8:00 PM, there will be a storytelling session for all audiences narrated by Miguel Ángel Montilla.

"We at Tourism have deemed it appropriate to support a different way of doing tourism, which allows for exploring spaces and creating meeting points between people and families, to highlight the way of feeling and living in Villena," stated the councillor.

This activity allows for "reviving oral traditions in a meeting space where stories are told," added Montilla.
