The Municipal Cleaning Services of Villena have removed approximately 13,000 kilos of waste from the city's streets during the recent Moors and Christians Festival, according to the announcement made by the Councillor for Cleaning and Urban Solid Waste, Sergio Palao. The councillor stated, "the street cleaning operation in the areas most impacted by the various festive events and activities of the comparsas has been a success, thanks to the commitment of the service staff, their dedication and excellent work, as well as the great cooperation from citizens and those responsible for the festive entities."

Additionally, Palao highlighted the reduction in public waste, interpreting it as a sign of increased social awareness regarding the reuse of certain materials and the importance of leaving as little waste as possible on the city streets. "The 15.8% reduction in waste collected compared to 2023 is good news. I believe our society, our city, is becoming more aware of respecting our public spaces, but above all, of environmental protection and sustainability," he commented.

The service on September 6 saw the highest amount of waste removed, up to 3,340 kilos, while September 9 recorded the lowest amount collected with only 1,440 kilos.
