Villena's mayor, Fulgencio Cerdán, signed a decree on Wednesday establishing the closure of municipal parks and the suspension of outdoor sports activities in response to the orange alert for strong wind gusts expected in the coming hours.
A yellow level wind warning was issued on Wednesday. However, the weather forecast predicts strong wind gusts in the coming days, prompting the City Council to consider preventive safety measures to avoid accidents.
The decree mandates the closure of outdoor sports facilities and parks from 00:01 on Thursday to 14:00 on Friday. It also highlights the need to inform schools and request the Environmental Brigade to inspect the trees along the city's main roads.

"We have experienced many incidents in our municipality due to the wind, with episodes of downbursts causing material damage in some cases. This history compels us to take preventive measures," commented Villena's mayor.
Cerdán stated that the City Council will follow the reports from official meteorological services and guidelines, although he believes that Villena's peculiarities require more stringent safety measures.
