Villena's mayor, Fulgencio Cerdán, has filed an appeal with the Territorial Service of Industry, Energy, and Mines against the plans of the Audax Solar SPVII plant due to its alteration in the electric line evacuation route and its potential impact on several plots where community interest projects are planned. In the document signed by the mayor, reference is made to the impact that the underground line will have on several plots in Villena's agricultural area where "the water distribution conduits corresponding to the Modernization and Consolidation of Irrigation Project, a work declared of general interest and public utility, are located."
The registered document with the Conselleria points out that "from the Town Hall, we reiterate our opposition to any route that may cause harm to the assets related to water distribution infrastructure, particularly those of the General Community of Users of Alto Vinalopó," an entity that brings together the irrigators of the region.

Cerdán also noted that in this area, many residents' homes could be affected by the undergrounding of the electric line, which will create fractures in certain plots and an insurmountable barrier for many residents due to the parallel infrastructures required.
Additionally, the appeal against the solar plant project – which has obtained authorizations from the Generalitat Valenciana – also warns of its possible impact on the development of the Levante Interior Logistics Node, a logistics activity area (ZAL) promoted by the Town Hall before the Generalitat and intended to be located at the foothills of the Bulilla Industrial Estate. The appeal text states "our disagreement with any proposal that may limit the strategic industrial development for Villena and the province of Alicante, such as the Sustainable Strategic Investment Project (PIES)."
The mayor recalled that "at this moment, our ability to defend our territory is very limited following the Consell's decree last year. However, Villena will employ all tools to defend our interests, which relate to the commitment to developing cleaner and more sustainable energies, but in an orderly, appropriate manner that does not pose a threat to our landscape, agricultural potential, and natural areas."
Cerdán believes that the Consell "has tied the hands and feet of the Town Halls, denying them any decision-making power over their municipal area, exposed to the will of the different consellerias and the interests of the companies managing the solar plants, generally multinationals not linked to the territory."
