Villena begins road surface repair works on Alicante Avenue

Villena City Council commenced road surface repair works on Alicante Avenue this Monday through the Department of Maintenance and Services. The works aim to address potholes in several sections of the avenue. The commencement of this operation coincides with the closure of this route towards the city centre, prompting the creation of an alternative route via Comadrona Luz Esteva Street, connecting with Paco Arévalo Avenue and linking to La Losilla Avenue.

The Councillor for Maintenance and Services, Maite Gandía, explained that the operation consists of two phases. The first phase involves identifying the cause of the potholes and the slight subsidence observed in some sections of Alicante Avenue, from the petrol station to the roundabout. The second phase will focus on repairing the road.

"We detected surface damage some time ago and have attempted to identify the cause, which we suspect lies underground, possibly within one of the subterranean installations. However, as the cause was not identified using camera methods during the inspection of water conduits, we have been compelled to open the surface and assess its condition," Gandía commented.

Once the cause is determined, the Department will proceed to repair the source causing the loss of asphalt consistency and will repair the road surface as soon as possible. However, as the Councillor indicated, "until the cause is known, we cannot establish a timeframe for this operation, which is necessary for the safety of vehicular traffic."
