The Town Hall of La Vila Joiosa has commenced the implementation of an innovative carbon footprint management system as part of the Sustainable Tourism Plan in Destination (PSTD) under the name 'Diversification of the Offer and Sustainable Tourism Management'. This programme, funded by the European Union's Next Generation funds, aims, according to municipal sources, to "advance towards a more responsible, efficient, and resilient tourism model."
The main goal of this project is to achieve a key transformation in how the Town Council monitors the environmental impact of its activities. From now on, La Vila Joiosa will have its own tool to continuously and thoroughly assess the climatic impact resulting from its municipal services and activities.
According to municipal sources, this system will provide updated data monthly, differentiated by sectors, and capable of incorporating indirect emissions from essential contracts for urban functioning, such as public lighting, waste collection, or park and garden maintenance, among others. Furthermore, it will pay special attention to the impact of tourism on the natural and urban environment of the municipality.
"Calculating the carbon footprint is an opportunity to improve municipal management, as it not only allows the identification of areas where energy consumption can be reduced, but also helps to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and fosters greater environmental awareness among citizens," explained the Town Hall.
Thanks to this tool, the Town Council will be able to make strategic decisions based on real data, optimize the use of public resources, and advance in the transition towards a more sustainable city model committed to the environment.
The measure also aligns with the growing demand for more responsible tourism, where sustainability and digitalization play a key role in enhancing the visitor experience and protecting the environment.
