Construction has officially commenced this week in La Vila Joiosa for the installation of a new lift that will connect Centro Beach with the Barberes Sur area. This infrastructure has been long-awaited by residents and represents a significant advancement in urban accessibility. The project, located on the plot at Avenida del Puerto number 16, will bridge the more than 16-metre height difference separating the town centre from sea level in this part of the municipality.

The lift will be installed on a plot of approximately 340 square metres situated at the top of the slope, with a capacity for 13 people. The system, featuring high energy efficiency, will incorporate a modern motor and automatic lighting and ventilation systems to reduce consumption and prevent continuous operation. Additionally, a building will be constructed to house the lift, connecting with the upper area via a pedestrian walkway over 20 metres long.

The mayor, Marcos Zaragoza, and the Urban Planning Councillor, Pedro Ramis, visited the site alongside municipal technicians and representatives of the contracting company to sign the staking out document, formally initiating the works. The construction period is set for six months, with the infrastructure expected to be operational before the end of the year.

Zaragoza highlighted that "a necessary infrastructure in our municipality is being launched, which is one of our electoral programme proposals we are working on, and it represents another point of accessibility that ensures access between the town centre and Centro Beach."

In addition to the lift, the project includes a series of complementary improvements in the area. At the lower part, three public toilets will be installed, one of which will be accessible, as well as a small storage room for maintenance staff. A children's playground, a garden, and new urban furniture will also be integrated to create a more pleasant, functional, and attractive environment for residents and visitors.

Another key aspect of the project is the stabilisation of the slope, both in the main area and in the parking area of the Clavileño building. Techniques such as bolting and fixation with metal mesh will be applied, along with hydroseeding with native plant species to mitigate the visual impact of the works and promote the landscape integration of the new infrastructure.

With this intervention, the council takes a step forward in its strategy to improve urban accessibility and connectivity, especially in an area with high traffic during the summer months. The execution of the lift between Centro Beach and Barberes Sur provides a new boost for pedestrian mobility in the municipality and responds to a long-standing demand from the citizens.
