La Vila Joiosa is gearing up for its participation in the upcoming edition of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid, Spain's most important tourism promotion event, which will be held at the Ifema fairgrounds in the capital from January 22 to 26. The focus will be on its gastronomic offerings, particularly the 25th anniversary of the 'La Vila Gastronómica' brand, under which various annual events are organized by the sector.
With just a week to go before the Madrid event, Rosa Llorca, the Councillor for Tourism and Commerce, explained that one of the key messages the town aims to convey to potential visitors is that "La Vila Joiosa is the town of colours and also the 'poble de peix' and the town of chocolate."
In this regard, Llorca emphasized that "fishing and the chocolate industry define not only our gastronomy but also our lifestyle and are among our main tourist products." This is the message that will be conveyed throughout the week at Fitur to both industry professionals and potential individual visitors.
In this context, the local Tourism official recalled that 2025 marks a quarter-century since the town began "its commitment to quality gastronomy." To commemorate this milestone, "together with the hospitality, fishing, and chocolate sectors, we are preparing a schedule of activities throughout the year to celebrate this important anniversary and continue to highlight our heritage and our local products."
La Vila Gastronómica is a well-established culinary event with significant projection, having featured prominent national chefs over the past quarter-century, including Ferrán Adrià, Joan Roca, Pepe Rodríguez, Susi Diaz, Santi Santamaría, María José San Román, Sergi Arola, Quique Dacosta, Ricard Camarena, Carme Ruscadella, and Andoni Luis Aduriz, among others.
This brand, which encompasses numerous specific proposals, "will be present at the Comunitat Valenciana stand with a chocolate tasting from La Vila Joiosa, where Juan Rubio, the only Spaniard on the Grand Jury of the World Final Chocolate Awards, will also be present."
Additionally, at the Costa Blanca stand and in the central plaza of the Comunitat Valenciana stand, "videos showcasing the town's most notable activities will be continuously projected, highlighting the year-round tourism offerings, such as La Vila Gastronómica initiatives, the Moors and Christians festivals, international sporting events, rich historical heritage, and natural settings for active tourism."
Indeed, beyond the culinary delights, La Vila Joiosa will present its image as a city with a vast catalogue of cultural and festive attractions from Fitur. The Moors and Christians festivals will also be featured at the Undef stand. The Santa Marta Association and the Department of Festivities will present a video promoting the central event of the festivals, the Landing, as a unique event in the world.
"La Vila Joiosa is also the 'poble del Desembarc,' and we want to emphasize that, besides being a spectacular event, it is the oldest and most authentic, as its celebration has been documented since the 18th century. Moreover, our festivals were declared of international tourist interest over 20 years ago."
Beyond the promotional activities within the Ifema pavilions, the central venue of Fitur, La Vila Joiosa will showcase activities inviting visitors throughout the year at the central Callao square on Madrid's Gran Vía.
At this location, the town will highlight its beaches, colourful houses, fishing and chocolate industry traditions, and international sporting events, supported by the La Vila Rugby Club and the Nautical Club. Llorca emphasized the upcoming World Kayak Marathon Championship in October 2026, as well as the Maror Fest pop-rock music festival on June 27 and 28, and the Moors and Christians festivals from the 24th to the 31st.
In conclusion, "La Vila Joiosa offers tourist products to attract national and international visitors throughout the year. Additionally, in 2025, we will enjoy a more intense schedule of events with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of La Vila Gastronómica and the 725th anniversary of the Carta Pobla," Llorca concluded.
