San Vicente del Raspeig has awarded the contract for drafting the project for the low emission zone and updating the sustainable urban mobility plan. Following the formalisation of the contract, the company CPS Infraestructuras Movilidad y Medio Ambiente will have one year to develop the proposal, with an investment of 152,000 euros during 2025 and 2026.
The Councillor for the Environment, Mercedes Torregrosa, stated that "we are fulfilling our commitment to work towards a healthy San Vicente, and the latest award related to the low emission zone to a specialised company is further proof. In the coming year, they will conduct a study to determine the actual state of traffic on our streets and the level of pollutant gas emissions to assess the air quality in our municipality."
Plan for Sustainable Urban Mobility
The councillor explained that meters will be installed at various points in the city to gather the necessary data for the study. She also noted that "there is also a one-year period for reviewing the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, which is crucial to update with new sustainability criteria."
Torregrosa explained that "by next summer, we will have all the necessary preliminary project based on this thorough technical study." From there, decisions can be made on how to implement the low emission zone in different areas, where measures, resources, and signage will be progressively established.
The councillor pointed out that, alongside this project, "we are already working on adapting different roads to align with the sustainable mobility criteria that will be implemented in the low emission zone, such as the single platforms on Velázquez and Pintor Picasso streets, the first already completed and the second planned in the improvement works to be carried out this year."
The company awarded the project, CPS, has been involved in the implementation of low emission zones in municipalities with over 50,000 inhabitants, such as Alicante, Valladolid, Elche, Benidorm, Elche, Elda, or Guadalajara. The Environment Councillor is confident that, with the supervision of municipal technicians, "the objectives will be fully met to advance towards a more sustainable city."
